GRADUATION CEREMONY 2024

 

The 2024 Graduation Ceremony will take place on 17 May 2024 at the York Theatre, Seymour Centre

  • The Seymour Centre is located at Cnr City Road &, Cleveland St, Chippendale NSW 2008.
  • The ceremony will commence at 2.30pm, with further details about the ceremony and requirements, arrival times etc will be sent along with the invitation email, and listed below. 
  • The Ceremony will be live-streamed for Graduands, Family and Friends unable to attend. This link will be emailed to all Graduands prior to the event.  

TICKETS

You will receive an invitation to your graduation ceremony for the presentation of your Academic Transcript and Testamur by Wednesday 1 May 2024

  • Please note you must complete the exit clearance process before Graduation – please get in touch with the Student Centre if you are unsure whether you have outstanding items or actions.

Once you have received confirmation of your Graduation, you will be able to  purchase tickets to the ceremony for your family, friends and other guests. 

  • Graduates will be issued a complimentary ticket for the ceremony.
  • All other tickets will be available for purchase at $45per person, plus booking fees.

IF YOU CAN'T ATTEND 

If you are unable to attend Graduation, your Academic Testamur and Transcripts will be mailed to you post-graduation at the address you provide.

Guests & Tickets

GUESTS  - 2 PER STUDENT

As a Graduating Student, you are not required to purchase a ticket and your 'graduation' includes gown hire, cap with 2024 tassel (for you to keep) and formal stills photography.  

Each graduand is permitted to invite three or more guests to attend the ceremony until sold out.  Cost per guest ticket will be $45.

The ceremony will be followed by light catering and non-alcoholic refreshments in the Seymour Centre foyer, which is included with all tickets. Alcoholic beverages will be available to purchase from the bar.  

Tickets will be available for sale from Tuesday 30 April pm and the link will be sent to you via email communication from Events. 

 

If you would like to attend Graduation but are experiencing financial difficulty and unable to purchase a ticket, please contact the   ↗ AFTRS Student Centre to discuss what support may be available to you.

Gowns & Accessibility

GOWNS

 

Please  ↗ REGISTER HERE by Wednesday May 8 to select a gown size which will be labelled for you to pick up on the day.

  • Gown hire is included in Graduation and this requires all graduands attend a gown fitting at the Seymour Centre on the day of the ceremony. 
  • Graduands are asked to be at the Seymour Centre 10 minutes prior to their fitting window to accommodate for parking/transportation delays.
  • Fitting assistants will be available to assist Graduands in finding the size that best fits them.
  • You will be able to leave any coats or bags in the backstage area, however please do not bring any valuables, as AFTRS assumes no responsibility for lost or stolen items.  

GRADUAND ARRIVALS

Graduands should arrive at the Stage Door entrance of the Seymour Centre, off Blackwattle Creek Lane at least 10 minutes prior to their gown fitting. A member of the wardrobe team will meet you at the entrance and assist with your graduation ticket, gown, hat and tassel.

  • 11.30am – Bachelor of Arts Screen: Production, Diploma of Arts Screen: Production, Advanced Diploma of Arts Screen: Production –

    • SURNAMES A to N 

  • 12.00pm – Bachelor of Arts Screen: Production, Diploma of Arts Screen: Production, Advanced Diploma of Arts Screen: Production –

    • SURNAMES O to P 

  • 12.30pm – Master of Arts Screen, Graduate Diploma in Arts Screen  

  • 1.00pm – Master of Arts Screen: Business, Graduate Diploma of Radio & Podcasting 

Graduands are required to remain onsite from arrival time up until the Ceremony, so please consider bringing water and snacks with if you if required.   Once gowned, Graduands will be able to join fellow graduands in the York Theatre Foyer.

ACCESSIBILITY

Please notify us of any accessibility requirements you may have for stage access during the ceremony. This is in regards to graduands, as you will be required to make your way onto the stage to collect your testamur, and then return to your seat.

Accessibility requirements for guests and seating will be handed by the Seymour Centre.

The Ceremony

CEREMONY AND TIMING

The Seymour Centre is located at Cnr City Road &, Cleveland St, Chippendale NSW 2008.

Graduand Entrance:  Stage Door entrance of the Seymour Centre, off Blackwattle Creek

Getting there: Please note the Seymour Centre carpark is currently CLOSED.

There is extremely limited ticketed street parking in the area, so the use of public transport to get to the venue is strongly encouraged. Alternatively, Broadway Shopping Centre has ample parking for a fee, however please note it is a 10min walk to the Seymour Centre and to factor this into your arrival time and/or access requirements.   

11.30am Graduand Arrival & Registration 

  • You should plan to be at the Stage Door entrance of the Seymour Centre, off Blackwattle Creek Lane between 11.30am - 1pm as required for where will you meet the wardrobe team who will assist you with your graduation ticket, gown, hat and tassel
    • 11.30am Bachelor of Arts Screen Production, Diploma of Arts Screen: Production, Advanced Diploma of Arts Screen: Production – SURNAMES A to N 

    • 12.00pm – Bachelor of Arts Screen: Production, Diploma of Arts Screen: Production, Advanced Diploma of Arts Screen: Production – SURNAMES O to P 

    • 12.30pm – Master of Arts Screen, Graduate Diploma in Arts Screen  

    • 1.00pm – Master of Arts Screen: Business, Graduate Diploma of Radio & Podcasting 

1.30pm Graduand briefing and Formal Seating York Theatre

  • We will show you where to sit, how to accept your Testamur and where to look for your photography
  • Please note you will not be returning to the foyer until after the ceremony.
  • Please prepare for this accordingly. We will be streaming this event live and working towards 2.30 sharp commencement.

2.00 pm Guest arrivals, Box office opens 

  • Your Friends and family will need to pick up their ticket from the box office before going up stairs, or present their digital ticket on their smartphone
  • Guests will not be permitted entry to the event until 2pm to be seated for a 2.30pm commencement of the ceremony.   

2.30 pm – 4.30pm Ceremony Commencement

4.30 pm – 6pm Celebration York Foyer

  • You will also have the opportunity to take advantage of professional photography for your friends and family during this time.
  • After the formal ceremony we invite all graduands and guest to enjoy drinks and canapes from approximately 4.30 pm – 6pm.
  • The bar will be open for purchases until 5.45 pm.
  • Gown return required before leaving the venue
  • You may keep your hat and tassel

 

Legal & Preferred Name

LEGAL NAME ON ACADEMIC DOCUMENTS

All students will graduate under their Legal Name as listed on the Student Management System. 

This includes your first name, middle name and last name. 

This will be reflected on your Academic Transcript and TESTAMUR as presented to you at Graduation or mailed to you via Registered Post.

 

PREFERED NAME TO USE FOR GRADUATION CEREMONY 

If you have a preferred name by which you are known at AFTRS and would like to have that name used during Graduation Ceremony, then please email ↗ AFTRS Student Centre to confirm.

This will be the name that is used to call you to the Stage to receive your TESTAMUR.
