Copyright for Staff

Films, Television Series, Streaming Videos

There are a number of different licences and copyright exceptions that concern the way films, television series and streaming videos can be used for teaching purposes. Listed here will be some general rules, but if you are unsure on whether your use of films, television series or streaming videos breaches copyright be sure to talk to the Library staff.

Recording made under the School's Screenrights Licence

These programs can be found:                        

  • On Clickview (Off-air recording Database).
  • In the Library's Screen Collection with a red Screenrights slick.
  • Check with Library staff if you are unsure.
                                  
The video is found in one of the Library's Streaming Databases e.g. Kanopy, BeamaFilms

 

A video from the Library's collection
  • The full film or television series can be screened during class.
  • Short clips from particular sections can be taken from the Library item for teaching purposes only.
  • If you have any questions, please contact Library staff.
Forbidden, Red, Cross, Delete, Cancel, Denied, Error
Streaming Video from Netflix, Stan, Amazon Prime or other streaming service NOT accessed via the library  
Video from YouTube, Vimeo or other online video sharing site
  • You must use the EMBED/SHARE function found on the video's website.
  • If there is NO embed or share button you are not able to use the video.
Forbidden, Red, Cross, Delete, Cancel, Denied, Error

Playing a Film, Television series or streaming video that was not obtained under the Screenrights licence: 

  • Other than educational purposes 
  • A paying audience
Any performances for which an admission fee is charged, or where members of the public attend, will require the permission of the copyright owner, and usually the payment of a royalty.
