The Student Centre

New 2021 Students applying for FEE-HELP will need both a Tax File Number and a Unique Student Identifier (Usi) to complete the eCAF form which will be emailed to them shortly.

  • Returning AFTRS students who will graduate after 1 Jan 2022 will also need to have a USI in order to graduate.

A UNIQUE STUDENT IDENTIFIER (USI).

A USI - Unique Student Identifier is your individual education identifier for life. It also creates an online record of your training attainments in Australia.  If you are undertaking either nationally recognised training, or a higher education qualification, you need a USI in order to receive commonwealth financial assistance.

If you don’t currently have a USI, you can request one using the Government online form.

If you have undertaken VET training since 2015, you probably have a USI. If you are unsure, please go to the Find your USI page to check.

From 1 January 2021, new higher education students will need a USI in order to be eligible for Commonwealth assistance. From 1 January 2023 all higher education students, including those who commenced prior to 2021, must have a USI in order to graduate and receive their award.

TAX FILE NUMBER.

If you don’t have a TFN, you will need to complete the following steps:

  1. Apply for a TFN through the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) or Australia Post as soon as possible. Please be aware that it can take several weeks to obtain a TFN, so be sure to do this straight away. Once submitted, you will receive a ‘Certificate of Application for a TFN’ from the ATO.
  2. Apply for FEE-HELP via the eCAF online portal, as mentioned above. At Section D – Tax File Number:
    1. Tick the option ‘I have a Certificate of Application for a TFN’.
    2. Upload a photo or scanned copy of your TFN certificate of application.
  3. Once you have received your TFN from the ATO, forward it to Student Centre as soon as possible so that it can be saved on your student record.
