Scholarship Application Tips

Check your eligibility

Some scholarships are based on certain criteria such as gender, ethnicity, your chosen course of study, disability, financial situation or where you live. Read the eligibility criteria carefully to make sure you are definitely suitable to apply for the scholarship. If you are unsure you can discuss with the Student Centre.

Know the closing date

Don’t wait until the last minute or try and rush through an application. Give yourself plenty of time to search for scholarships you may be eligible for and make a list of the closing dates so you can plan ahead and allow enough time to prepare your application and supporting documentation.

Address the criteria

Ensure you meet and address all the criteria in your application. It is important that you answer all questions and provide any requested supporting documentation.

Keep it relevant

If a personal statement is requested, you should stick to the word limits and keep it relevant to the specific requirements of the scholarship. Only include requested documentation that is relevant to and supports your application.

Use the help around you

Student Centre can provide advice and guidance for your scholarship applications. It can also be helpful to get a family member or friend to read over your application to identify any errors or other relevant information that you have omitted.

You can apply for as many scholarships as you like, so make the most of the opportunities. Remember, if you don’t give it a go, you’ll never know.
