AFTRS Library Code of Conduct

AFTRS Jerzy Toeplitz Library: Terms of Use

AFTRS requires all Library users (you) to comply with these Terms of Use:

Maintaining the Library environment

To maintain a pleasant library environment conducive to study and research:

  • AFTRS expects you to treat all Library staff and other users with courtesy and respect. Without limiting this, while infrequent quiet discussion is permitted, you will be asked to leave if your behaviour disrupts staff and other users. AFTRS requires that phone calls are kept to a minimum and that headphones are used when listening to music or other multimedia so neither can be heard by other people nearby.

  • If you want to take photographs or to film in the Library you need to ask permission from Library staff. If permission is given, you also need to ask any other Library User for permission to photograph or film them.

  • You must supervise any child under 12 years of age who accompanies you to the Library.

Protecting the quality of the collection

To maintain AFTRS’ Library collection to a high standard for the benefit of the wide range of people who have access to it:

  • AFTRS requires you to treat all the Library materials you use with care and expects you to return borrowed material in the same condition in which they were borrowed, except for fair wear and tear.

  • AFTRS reserves the right to charge you for the repair or replacement of any Library materials you lose or damage. AFTRS may cancel a Library membership or ask you to leave the Library if you damage, deface or remove without authorisation any Library materials.

  • Eating in the Library is not permitted.

Using the Library and its collection and facilities

To ensure the security of the Library and its collection and facilities, and their use in a legal, ethical and responsible manner:

  • AFTRS’ staff and students may be asked by AFTRS’ Library staff at any time to present their ID card.

  • Members of the public may be asked to present either their Library Membership Card or, if a casual visitor, to sign a visitor’s book located in the Library and wear a lanyard with their name and ID.

  • You must observe applicable law, including copyright and privacy laws and laws relating to pornography. Applicable licence conditions of online resources must be complied with.

  • AFTRS’ computers are not to be used in a harassing, discriminatory, abusive, rude, insulting, threatening, obscene or other inappropriate or illegal manner or in a manner that is likely to corrupt, damage or destroy data, software or hardware.

  • You need to take care of any personal belongings you bring with you to the Library, and AFTRS does not take any responsibility for their loss or damage. If you suspect there is a risk to people or property while they are in the Library, please inform a staff member.

  • You must permit library and security staff to inspect your bags, folders and other containers if requested.

  • You will be expected to leave the Library at closing time, during emergency procedures, if found or suspected to be in breach of these Terms of Use or when otherwise requested by Library staff.
